The UK has a large and vibrant marine cargo insurance industry located in major cities across the nation, but cargo business is, by its nature, global.
Cargo is an enormous part of the insurance market and we hope that the International Cargo Insurance Conference (ICIC) reflects the transformations in technology, demography, consumer needs and laws that continue to challenge our industry in this sector.
Comprising of London market professionals from differing areas of insurance, since our 2014 inception, we have dynamically sought to create an event as inclusive as possible and open to the wide marine cargo insurance sector. The ICIC committee’s primary ambition is to provide a neutral, professional and educational environment for cargo/transportation practitioners and to be of great importance throughout people’s careers.
Looking for innovative ways to give individuals the skills to develop, 2017 welcomed our newly sponsored ICIC Recognition of Excellence Award specifically aimed at the U35’s in the market. The competition was repeated in 2018 with the winner participating at ICIC in Oxford and MICA in New York. ICIC looks forward to continuing with this successful initiative.
As well as producing a full agenda of knowledgeable speakers who each year highlight crucial cargo concerns, ICIC is associated with and supported by many leading marine associations including AIMU, JCC and IUMI, enhancing our intention to build upon our global event status.
Since 2014, each year within our programme we have endeavoured to highlight the challenges and issues faced by the global cargo community and this year is no exception. Controversial ecological issues and economic uncertainty, security breaches and political mayhem has not deterred market confidence which remains resilient. Global demographic and emerging economies will continue to increase demand for goods and with future innovation and the imminent introduction of autonomous vessels, the implications for the shipping industry’s future is positively challenging.
